The city of La Pine (el. 4,236′, zip code 97739) is located on the southern edge of Deschutes County, thirty miles south of Bend on HWY 97. Though founded in the 1800s, La Pine was only incorporated as a city in 2006. Within central Oregon, the La Pine area was one of the first to prosper, however, an early water supply failure combined with the rapid growth of Bend caused La Pine’s prosperity to stagnate. Today, as Deschutes County remains one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, La Pine has seen a resurgence and is now a popular commuter town to Bend. In addition to its proximity to Bend, La Pine is also close to the communities of Three Rivers South and Sunriver. Like most of Central Oregon, La Pine is close to abundant outdoor recreational activities. It is surrounded by National Forrest land, close to numerous lakes, streams, & rivers, as well as the Newberry National Volcanic Monument.
