Laidlaw (an early town promoter), it was renamed Tumalo by residents in 1915. Though small, the town does include several blocks of commercial shops & restaurants as well as the Tumalo Community School. Nearby neighborhoods include Big Sky CountryDeschutes River Tracts, Glacier View, GrandridgeHorizon View RanchesLaidlaw, Lovestone AcresRancho El Sereno, RockwoodStarwood, StoneridgeSunset West, and Tumalo Heights. The area is also home to larger farms & ranches. Tumalo State Park is located a few miles to the southwest on HWY 20. The town of Sisters is 15 miles northwest on HWY 20. Eagle Crest resort is nine miles north on Cline Falls Road. Deschutes River Ranch is 2-1/2 miles north on Tumalo Road and then Swalley Road.
